    International independent child rights expert

Marine Braun is an international lawyer and child rights expert with extensive experience as a multi-country project coordinator and independent consultant. She has collaborated with prominent international organisations including the Council of Europe (Children’s Rights Division), United Nations agencies (IOM, UNDP, UNICEF, UNODC), civil society organisations (Child Identity Protection, Defence for Children International, Penal Reform International, Terre des Hommes), and universities such as Geneva, Strathclyde, and Ottawa. Her work focuses on advancing access to child-friendly justice within a broader social justice framework. Her expertise covers issues such as child identity, child participation, child protection, climate justice, juvenile justice, and the intersection of children’s rights with terrorism-related contexts, across both formal and informal justice systems. Through her assignments, she has provided technical support to governments and institutional partners across Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe in implementing their obligations under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Her work includes conducting in-depth research, developing policy recommendations, and designing practical tools to promote and defend children’s rights. She has contributed to policy and legislative reforms at national and local levels in countries including Argentina, Belgium, Indonesia, Iraq, Luxembourg, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, and Slovenia, to name a few. Her approach is grounded in the core principles of the UNCRC, emphasising the best interests of the child and meaningful child participation. She strongly believes that children’s voices must be heard and considered at all levels of decision-making, and that both children and professionals working for and with them should be supported in healing from trauma through speaking out and receiving proper care.
