Leisha Beardmore is a global expert in Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), and Human Rights Law, with over 15 years of experience across humanitarian and displacement contexts, as well as in policy and academic settings. As a Senior Consultant, they have worked with the United Nations, Amnesty International and the UK Houses of Parliament among others. They are the Founder of Cadre, a nonprofit working to centre decolonial approaches to advancing trauma recovery and healing for survivors of human rights violations worldwide, a creative arts social enterprise and work as an artist and Fellow at the Royal Society for the Arts. Their work has included in-country leadership roles in Afghanistan, Iraq/Northeast Syria, Cambodia and Greece, among others. As part of their work as an advisor and consultant to the UN, they have led a five-country study on technology-facilitated child marriage, where child marriage is facilitated by the misuse of different technologies in South and Southeast Asia, developed the forthcoming global guidance and training on technology-facilitated GBV (TFGBV) against children and adolescents, facilitated research in Colombia, Kenya and Cambodia with children and adolescents on the solutions they want to see in this space, and initiated a multiagency UN technical note on TFGBV across the lifespan. At Stanford University, Leisha serves as a Research Fellow and Senior Researcher, integrating mental health into human rights investigations and developing culturally grounded trauma interventions, as well as serving as a focal point on TFGBV, and supporting work on anti-trafficking between the Medical School and Law School. Leisha holds advanced degrees from Columbia University, Harvard Medical School, and the London School of Economics, is an Expert Witness in the US and UK on human trafficking, and is set to begin their doctorate in Clinical Medicine in 2027 with a focus on PTSD prevention in humanitarian contexts. They are based between Edinburgh, Scotland and Athens, Greece.
