“Mera Me Chroma” – ERT3
Juvenile delinquency and youth violence are not isolated incidents or temporary trends. They represent a complex and deeply rooted social issue — one that affects families, schools, communities, and society as a whole.
In a recent episode of “Mera me Chroma” on ERT3, the growing phenomenon of violence and delinquent behavior among minors was explored through a multi-level discussion, bringing together institutional representatives and scientific voices.
Among the participants was Stefanos Alevizos, psychologist and postgraduate researcher, representing IASIS NGO. During the discussion, he highlighted a critical reality:
Youth violence is not limited to the school environment.
It increasingly appears in public spaces, neighbourhood squares, and even online — reflecting deeper social, familial, and psychosocial factors.
His contribution emphasized that these behaviours are often symptoms of broader vulnerabilities, rather than isolated acts of misconduct.
Addressing violence among young people requires more than punitive responses.
Effective solutions must focus on:
Prevention and early intervention
Strengthening protective social and emotional factors
Providing meaningful support to minors themselves
Building environments of safety, inclusion, and guidance
Youth need opportunities, care, and structured support — not only control.
We would also like to warmly thank Dimitris Vartzopoulos, Deputy Minister of Health, for his presence and contribution to this important public discussion. His engagement reflects the need for coordinated institutional action and dialogue when confronting such urgent social challenges.
IASIS NGO remains committed to preventing violence and empowering young people through scientific knowledge, psychosocial support, and community-based action.
This issue concerns not only the present — but the future of our society.
