Basak Kutahya is the Program Coordinator of the Child Protection Program at ASAM (Association for Social Development and Aid Mobilization), one of Türkiye’s leading humanitarian NGOs working to promote the protection, empowerment, and resilience of children and young people. With more than ten years of experience in humanitarian child protection, she has worked extensively on strengthening integrated child protection systems, case management, safeguarding, and community-based prevention and response mechanisms. Her work focuses on the early identification and protection of children on the move, including unaccompanied and separated children, as well as children affected by forced displacement, disability, gender- based violence, disasters, and trauma. Integrated service approach under this community-based model also supports the design and implementation of the mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) interventions, not only for children and youth but also for their caregivers and capacity-building initiatives for the stakeholders in the field. She has also actively contributed to national-level coordination efforts, participating in numerous technical consultations and working meetings with relevant ministries to strengthen child protection systems and the refugee response in Türkiye. Basak holds a master’s degree in Asia-Pacific Studies from National Chengchi University in Taiwan. Her academic research examined educational access for migrant children in China, reflecting her long-standing interest in migration, child rights, and inclusive protection systems.
